Leivonmäki National Park and other nature trails

Located in the municipality of Joutsa, the Leivonmäki National Park makes an excellent destination for hikers and rovers of all kinds, since it offers varied terrain, first-class scenery and many tracks and trails. In an area of just over 30 square kilometres visitors will discover a landscape that encompasses ridges, lakes and bogland, and which can be admired throughout the year. In the year of its establishment, the national park was named after the former municipality of Leivonmäki in which it was situated. Nowadays Leivonmäki is part of  the municipality of Joutsa.

Besides the national park there are also other smaller, but just as interesting nature trails in Joutsa. Near the Joutsa center you can find for example  the Valklampi Boardwalk which takes you across the marsh surrounding Iso Valklampi and Pieni Valklampi ponds.

Art, culture and events

Joutsa offers a rich array of art and cultural experiences that reflect both its vibrant local traditions and contemporary creativity. The town is home to Art Centre Haihatus, that attracts artists from across Finland and beyond, creating a dynamic space for contemporary art. The town also celebrates its cultural heritage through local festivals, fairs and music events, making Joutsa a lively hub for both residents and visitors interested in Finnish art, country life and culture. The most famous Festival in Joutsa is Joutsan Joutopäivät which has been arranged every summer since 1972. Joutsa is also known for it’s active sports life. A sports fan visiting Joutsa should head to team JoSePa’s futsal matches or to Joutsan Seudun Moottorirata -track where several motorsport events take place every summer.

Accomodation, food and shopping

Joutsa offers a variety of services that cater to both residents and visitors. For shopping, the municipality features for example grocery stores, Tokmanni department store, Pikkupuoti boutique and a few interesting second hand stores. Dining options in Joutsa include cozy cafes, traditional Finnish restaurants, burger and pizza places and an Indian restaurant. For accommodation, visitors can choose from comfortable bed and breakfast places to serene lakeside cottages, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing stay in this picturesque region. You can even sleep in a tree house or stay at a local sheep farm and participate in herding the sheeps!
